Description
Ivan Donaldson’s first vineyard was a hobby – a neurologist, he made wine in his home garage on weekends or between seeing patients. In the mid-1980s he took the plunge and opened Pegasus Bay, now considered a pioneer of Canterbury winemaking. All four of Ivan’s sons now work at the winery, managing the low-yield vineyards and crafting wines full of unique character. This bottling is Kiwi innovation at its finest: a multi-vintage, non-traditional blend of several grape varieties. Aged Sémillon from 35-year-old vines meets Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay – and tiny dashes of Muscat and Gewürztraminer. Rich and crisp in equal measure, it’s a multi-layered drinking experience. Citrus, orange blossom, passion fruit and melon notes mingle with vanilla and rose.
