Mendoza-born Manuel Mas returned to his homeland in the 1990s to establish Finca La Anita, named after his mother. His focus on quality at a time when the local industry largely prioritised volume made him a pioneer – and the winery is celebrated as such today. The MV Malbec is a special blend of top-quality grapes from the high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza, where plots can reach up to 1000m above sea level. Deep root systems on the old vines and irrigation from Andean snowmelt elevate the berry and blackcurrant flavours you’ll find in the glass. Expect deep red and violet hues, and aromas of red fruits, prunes, black pepper, tobacco and chocolate. There’s no better match for a juicy steak or slow-roasted leg of lamb.
