Description
Founded in 1844, Louis Violland is one of Burgundy's oldest and most dynamic wineries. It's built up a well-deserved reputation for high quality wines, and today, locally born winemaker Marinette Garnier is leading the way forwards. This opulent Chardonnay hails from Mercurey, an appellation in the CĂ´te Chalonnaise region that's named after the Roman god of commerce and travellers. It's arguably the most prolific appellation in this part of Burgundy â in fact, the CĂ´te Chalonnaise itself was once referred to as the âRegion de Mercureyâ, proof of just how important the village is to the wider area. The grapes come from acclaimed premier cru vineyard sites, where warm summers and dry autumns result in perfectly ripe, full-flavoured grapes. You'll find it rich and buttery, yet delicately floral, with concentrated notes of peach and lemon. 12 months of oak ageing gives it a luxurious texture that's a dream with fish and shellfish dishes.
