Description
Drink it now or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant. Founded in the late 1980s by Dany and Michel Rolland, Chateau Fontenil is located in the municipality of Saillans in the Bordeaux appellation of Fronsac. The estate has vineyards along the River Isle and near the town of Libourne which enjoy limestone clay soils and southern exposure. Here the company, under the guidance of the famous winemakers, produces two red wines and a white. The wine is a perfect blend of typical Bordeaux vines such as Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, with additions of Chardonnay, a grape much loved by the producers, and finally, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Gris which add a touch of aromaticity. The grapes are harvested manually from a plot located on a hill with clay-limestone soils, uprooted from red varieties in 2016, and replanted in 2017. Fermentation takes place in concrete barrels and the wine then ages on the yeasts for 9 months. Blanc de Fontenil has a clear and brilliant golden color. Its aromatic profile is fresh and intense with exotic notes of passion fruit, followed by citrus fruits and ripe apples, white flowers and honeysuckle, and finally some hints of spices. On the palate, it is dense and fruity, juicy and elegant. It has a marked acidic streak which creates a very balanced sensation. The finish is long and aromatic. Excellent with grilled chicken, salads with citrus fruits, or lemon creamy pasta.
