Winter airport parking: compare the full journey, not just the day rate

A low airport parking rate can be less convenient when the transfer does not suit an early departure or a late return. Before comparing a winter booking, write down the terminal and the times you expect to arrive and leave the car park. The journey between the parking space and check-in is part of the purchase.
Enter realistic arrival and return times
Allow for your planned airport arrival, luggage collection and the journey back to the vehicle. Use the airport’s current guidance when planning check-in time. Check how the operator calculates the booked period and what happens if your return is later than planned. Compare quotes for identical dates and times.
Compare the transfer arrangement
Read where the shuttle leaves, which terminals it serves and its stated operating hours. For meet-and-greet services, confirm the handover location and procedure. Factor in passengers, luggage and any assistance needs. A parking location described as nearby may still involve a transfer that does not suit your group.
Know where the car and keys will be
Read the operator’s description of the site, whether you retain your keys and whether the vehicle may be moved. Check the booking is with the operator you intended to use. Save directions and contact details before travelling rather than relying on mobile signal when approaching an unfamiliar airport.
Read the change terms before applying a code
Compare the final price after booking fees and optional extras. Check the terms for amendments, cancellation and delayed returns directly with the provider. A cheaper restricted booking and a flexible booking are different products. Keep the confirmation and use the operator’s process if flight arrangements change.
Your shortlist before checkout
- Quote the same terminal, dates and times across providers.
- Confirm transfer operating hours and handover details.
- Read delayed-return and amendment terms before paying.
Is the closest car park always the best option?
Distance is only part of the comparison. Transfer arrangements, terminal access, booking terms and the needs of your travelling group can matter just as much.
