Chapel Down has been monumental in helping English wine gain its stellar reputation. Their vineyards are ideally positioned in the south-east, where the chalk soils and balmy climate are ideal for making stunning traditional method wines. A portion of the blend for the Grand Reserve is from reserve stocks which have been stored in both barrel and tank to add extra complexity and depth. After maturing on its fine lees for six months before bottling, it then spends a minimum of three years ageing in bottle. It’s no surprise it’s won multiple gold medals from leading awards bodies. It’s rich, complex and elegant, with notes of ripe apple, fresh red berries and toasted brioche.
