Great Yarmouth was once a thriving port, famous for its trade in herring. It was also celebrated for its crowded, distinctive rows, a network of narrow alleyways between the town’s busy thoroughfares. Both the herring and the rows have now all but gone but two surviving row houses, in the care of English Heritage, show what these houses looked like in their 17th century heyday. They also contain an outstanding collection of fixtures and fittings from other now demolished row houses. Nearby stands Greyfriars’ Cloister, the remains of a 13th century friary of Franciscan or grey friars. This guidebook, the first comprehensive guide to these properties, illuminates many apects of their history and architecture and the lives of those who inhabited them. Key Features: 40 pages Paperback Published in 2011
