Rather than sticking to the tried-and-tested regions, winemaker Ben Glaetzer decided to strike out into some of South Australia’s lesser known corners when founding his winery in the 1990s. He ended up in Langhorne Creek, and has worked hard to build its profile. Together with some other industry veterans, he’s grown Heartland into an award-winning winery. This blend typifies Australian innovation. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz bring rich, savoury character and structure, while a touch of the rare Italian varietal Lagrein lends a kick of spice. Expect flavours of blackberry, red cherry and vanilla.
