Founded in 1978, Saint Clair turn out a diverse range of wines – including lesser-seen whites like Grüner Veltliner. The second-generation family-run team take their winemaking lead from oenologist Stewart Maclennan, who has worked throughout Australia and Europe and has an intimate knowledge of local soils and landscapes. This Pinot Blanc comes from a vineyard set at the confluence of the Waihopai and Wairau rivers, where windblown silt and clay soils sit over free-draining stone. A vast disparity between day and night temperatures ripens this aromatic varietal to perfection, lending perfumed notes of white peach, cherry blossom, honey and citrus peel. Silky, rich and with fruity sweetness, this is a versatile wine that will particularly suit grilled fish.
