Just a little over a decade old, the Smuggler’s Boot brand has been crafted by South Africa’s only Master of Wine, Richard Kershaw. Richard has a passion for cool-climate, site-specific wines made in the country’s coolest region, Elgin Valley. For this wine, he handpicks his slowly ripened grapes before whole-bunch pressing and naturally fermenting. The result is a sublime Chardonnay with aromas of spice, toast, citrus and stone fruit. Already showing flavours of apple, pear, peach and oatmeal, it’s a complex wine that will continue to age well over the next few years. Its full-flavoured and rounded character pairs brilliantly with rich seafood dishes or a decadent truffle risotto.
