Description
When Vavasour decided to set up shop in Marlborough’s cool Awatere Valley in 1986, people thought they were crazy. Dotted with sheep – and not much else – the small valley was believed to be too extreme for winemaking. Fast-forward nearly 40 years and Vavasour are considered pioneers. As they had first pick, they own the best vineyard sites in the valley and turn out intense, layered wines. Red berries, cherries, spice – this wine has all that we love about Pinot Noir, and with a distinctly Kiwi stamp too. It’s crafted by winemaker Stu Marfell, who hails from the Awatere Valley and picked his first vintage at Vavasour at the tender age of nine. Elegant and poised.
