Vento di Mare Syrah Appassimento 2022, Sicily

Description

The Sicilian region of Trapani, where this wine is made, is most famous for sweet styles like Marsala and Moscato. But as you can taste with this Syrah, that isn’t its only strength. A combination of fertile volcanic soils and influence from the nearby coast mean plenty of other tasty wine styles can be produced. Syrah isn’t a typical Italian grape – it hails from France, after all – but that doesn’t mean that it can’t thrive in the soils of Sicily. Vento di Mare handpick their bunches, then slow-dry them for up to a month before vinification. This ‘appassimento’ method results in a big, bold and velvety wine with complex flavours of red fruit, dark berries and black pepper.
