Description

Amethyst is a variety of quartz, easily identifiable by its violet to purple colours, caused by the presence of iron in the quartz. The birthstone for february, amethyst has generally been known as the crystal of healing and is excellent for spiritual protection and purification. This oval amethyst cabochon measures 10mm x 8mm. Amethyst has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity of 2.63 – 2.65. Please note that due to the nature of the stone, each stone is unique so colours will vary and slight natural inclusions and zoning may be present. Care: As with all gemstones, care must be taken. It is not advised to place amethyst stones in an ultrasonic, steam cleaner or chemical cleaning solution. Amethyst can be easily cleaned with a warm soapy water mix and an untreated cloth. It is advised to avoid exposing amethyst to prolonged periods of heat and light. A slight tolerance of +/- 0.25mm should be expected with these stones and these amethysts are sold individually.
