Onyx, Black And White Banded Oval Cabochon, 8x6mm

Banded Onyx is a variety of Chalcedony from the Quartz family, easily identifiable by its distinct bands of black and white. The patterns of these bands, running through opaque to translucent sections gives the stone a delicate, striped appearance. These onyx have been treated with a dyeing process to uniform the black colour tones of the stone. Onyx has generally been known as a stone of protection and is excellent for promoting strength and improving self confidence and wise decision making. This oval banded onyx cabochon measures 8mm x 6mm. Onyx has a hardness of 6.5 – 7 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity of 2.55 – 2.7. Please note that due to the nature of the stone, each cabochon is unique so colours will vary and slight natural inclusions are sometimes faintly visible. Care: As with all gemstones, care must be taken. It is not advised to place onyx stones in an ultrasonic, steam cleaner or chemical cleaning solution. Banded Onyx can be easily cleaned with a warm soapy water mix or an untreated cloth. It is advised to avoid exposing onyx to prolonged periods of heat and light. A slight tolerance of +/- 0.25mm should be expected with these stones and these onyx are sold individually.
