Description

Peridot is the gem quality variety of the mineral olivine, easily identifiable by its olive green colours, caused by the presence of iron in the olivine. The birthstone for august, peridot has generally been known as the stone of compassion and is excellent for alleviating jealousy and greed whilst motivating growth and confidence. This round faceted peridot stone measures 5mm. Peridot has a hardness of 6.5 – 7 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity of 3.34. Please note that due to the nature of the stone, each stone is unique so colours will vary and slight natural inclusions and zoning may be present. Care: As with all gemstones, care must be taken. It is not advised to place peridot stones in an ultrasonic, steam cleaner or chemical cleaning solution. Peridot can be easily cleaned with a warm soapy water mix or an untreated cloth. It is advised to avoid exposing peridot to prolonged periods of heat and light. A slight tolerance of +/- 0.25mm should be expected with these stones and these peridots are sold individually.
